The management at Newcastle Speedway have made a last minute behind-the-scenes change by bringing in a new Team Manager in the shape of former SCB referee, Darren Hartley.
The Diamonds’ boss, Rob Grant said last night: “We’re delighted to be bringing Darren into this vital roll in Newcastle Speedway and its amazing that he has relinquished his career as a fine and distinguished referee to take on this new role. He’s a great choice as he naturally knows the rulebook inside out, so tactically gives us the edge. He also knows the riders very well indeed and therefore will have a great rapport with the lads in the pits and get the best out of them on the track.
“Darren fits perfectly into the strategy in which we want to Newcastle Speedway to run,” added Grant, “I can only see success on the horizon with him at the helm, steering the team through 2020’s campaign. We want to wish Jason Pipe all the very best for the future and thank him sincerely for taking on the role earlier in the winter, but it was unfortunate that unforeseen circumstances led us to make the change we have.”
Hartley went on to add: “This was a great opportunity for me to take my speedway career into a different direction and to come into a club that is just buzzing with positivity left, right and centre, meant this was the perfect chance for me to do just that. I know I’ll be able to work with the riders, and what a great bunch of guys Rob has put together for this season.
“They’re capable of great things, of that I’m sure, and they will be piling up some good points, so the other teams need to beware! I just can’t wait to get on with the job in hand!”
