The Newcastle “GEC” Diamonds (associated with Metro Radio) management team have been monitoring the current situation regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, and taking close note of official information and advice which has lead to the club taking some necessary decisions.
Following developments, it has been decided to cancel the forthcoming press and practice sessions originally planned for this coming weekend, but with a solid duty-of-care in mind for the riders, staff and supporters the decision to cancel had to be made. This naturally includes the planned after practice “meet the riders” event as well.
The 90th Anniversary meeting (planned for March 29th) has again, as a consequence, been postponed to a later date in the season, to be confirmed, and anyone who has bought hospitality packages for this event will be able to use them at that restaging, or indeed any of the 2020 meetings once we do get underway.
With the ongoing recommendations and advice from the Government at the forefront of discussions within the sport in general, any announcement regarding future speedway activity at Brough Park will be dependant on the result of a meeting at Speedway’s HQ this week, and we will, of course, bring you the information and decisions as soon as they come through to us.
Any postponement and cancelation is disappointing, but we believe this is, under the unprecedented circumstances we find ourselves in, absolutely the right thing to do.
In the meantime, thank you all for your patience and ask everyone to concentrate on their health and safety and follow all the guidelines.
