Club Statement

As an exciting new era looms for Newcastle Speedway in 2020, it will arrive without the services of George English.

After over three decades involved at the forefront of the club English has decided to step down and leave the way clear for Rob Grant and his new team to bring in exciting changes to take the club forward into the modern era.

English said: “Newcastle Speedway means so much to me and although Rob wanted me to stay on as team manager for this season, I felt the time was right to step aside and leave the way clear and not have the past interfere with the new programme.

“I can only wish Rob every success in the future, and if that is the case, then there will be nobody happier than me as that would mean Newcastle Speedway is progressing well and continuing into the future.”

Grant then added: “I’d like to go on record to thank George and his family for all the hard work and service they have given to the club for such a very long time.

“He will always be a legend to me from the day he signed me, right up to the present day and no one has done more for Newcastle Speedway than George and his mum Joan English. He is truly Mr. Newcastle Speedway!”
